Matteo Carcassi was born in 1972 in Florence, Italy. Firstly he started to play piano, bur then learned to play guitar. And whole life he dedicated to guitar playing and teaching guitar and piano playing to other people.
When he was young, Carcassi moved to Paris, but he was all the time in the shadow of other famous guitar player Ferdinando Carulli. At that time Carully was considered to be as the best guitarist player. During two decades Carcassi was travelling A lot of European countries like England, Germany and Italy. During that period he developed his skills in guitar playing and learnt a lot of techniques. So, when Carcassi came back to Paris, he managed to achieve the same success as Carulli.
It is quiet probable that Carcassi wouldn’t achieve such popularity and success if he didn’t meet German publisher Antoine Meissonnier who published a lot of Carcassi’s works. Two of these works are included in the repertoire of every guitar player. Carcassi’s Opus 59 called Complete Method for the Guitar – is the manual which teaches how to play guitar and Opus 60 called 25 Melodic and Progressive Studies is one of the best examples where sound and composition care combined in great mixture. The total number of Carcass’s works which are saved till nowadays is 74.
In 1840 he stopped to give public performances and concentrated on his teaching activity and publishing his books. He died in 1853 in Paris.
