Planes allow people to travel from one place to another in a short period of time compared to roadways and railways. In earlier days, it was costly to travel by plane, but in recent days it has become much cheaper.

The planes are divided into three types depending on the dimensions in space. A sagittal is vertical and extended from the back, it is otherwise called as anterior-posterior plane. Coronal, or frontal or lateral plane, is a vertical plane that extends from side to side, and the body is divided into anterior and posterior sections. Transverse is horizontal and the body is divided into upper and lower portions.

The airplanes are used for business, air taxi, rental, commuter operations, personal transportation, sport flying, flight instruction, air ambulance and agricultural purposes. Aviation is divided into three sectors, general aviation, commercial, and military. Commercial aviation refers to the airlines. Military planes cover the Army, Navy, and the Air Force. General aviation includes the rest of the planes flying other than military and commercial.

Commercial airliners differ in size from commuter aircraft, which are small planes that carry a few passengers, to major carriers like Boeing 747s which can carry several hundred passengers. The military aviation craft include bombers, fighters, transports, and helicopters. Military planes include the B-2 Bomber, Stealth Fighter, and C-17 Transport. General aviation includes aircraft ranging from small, light planes to record-breaking, non-stop, around-the-world planes like the Voyager.

How does the airplane fly? Students of physics and aerodynamics are taught that airplanes fly as a result of Bernoulli’s principle. The principle states that if air speeds up, the pressure is lowered. Thus ,a wing generates lift because the air goes faster over the top, creating a region of low pressure, and thus lift.

How fast is the fastest plane in the world? The X-43A is designed to fly to speeds up to Mach 10, making it the fastest non-rocket air-breathing powered plane in the world. It is a part of NASA's (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) Hypersonic or Hyper-X program. Ultra-fast vehicles record their speed in terms of Mach, which is the speed of sound (approximately 1,219km/hr [758 mph]). The current record holder is the SR-71 Blackbird, which flies at Mach 3, approximately 3,658 km/hr (2,274 mph).
