People often have a perception that if a person was a drug or alcohol addict, then he may never leave the addiction. But this perception is made false by the various rehab centers where not only the addiction of the patient is cured but the patient is altogether made a changed human being with a feeling of high self respect. But the main problem for these patients arises when they leave the rehab centers. In the rehab centers, they have a fixed schedule and live a disciplined life but what will happen when they will come out of the rehab centers. This is the time when the main tests of these patients come, during the journey after leaving the rehab centers.

The most crucial factor for the patient to remain de addicted is high motivation for a healthy life. Also the people with which the patient spends his/her time should be cleverly chosen. This can be done by the patient himself or by his parents. One should always avoid bad company. Then a disciplined schedule has to be followed by the patient even at home in order to recover fully from the addiction. One should always keep in mind that the urge to drink or take drugs will always arise in the patient but the patient should be mentally strong enough to control those urges which will help him recover.

Making the patient responsible for certain things will help in keeping him away from the bad addictions or even touching the alcohol or drugs. The fear of being irresponsible will help him say goodbye to the addictions. Also, if possible, the counseling sessions with the rehab center must be continued for some time period in order to live a health life after leaving the rehab center. This will require some money but it will be worth spending.

One more point which will keep the patient away from the addictions and live a healthy life is having someone with whom the patient can share his views and problems. The patient should be always encouraged to discuss everything openly without fearing anything. These discussions will serve the purpose of counseling sessions which the patient used to have in the rehab center. By these discussions/sessions the mental status of the patient can also be known which will help in knowing the progress of the patient in the journey after leaving the rehab center.
