The Jedi are the members of a fictional monastic order in star war galaxy. They are known for their observance of spiritual awareness on The Force and their admittance to the order. They have a number of roles and often are seen as warriors, monks and philosophers. They are eventually responsible for enforcement of law and maintaining peace in the Galactic Republic. They have performed different roles like the generals, soldiers and advisors in various conflicts.

Jedi council is a gathering of all the great minds which acts as a governing body and also the advisory board of the old republic senate. The council may have as much as twelve members at a time. The star wars films chronicle the Jedi order at the time of its threatened existence. In the original trilogy they are near extinct, while the prequel trilogy depicts the orders downfall, but they soon re-establish their order by training a new generation of Jedi knights. So the new generation of Jedi develops in a new way to establish an academy in order to teach the way of Jedi to others. Soon the academy is turned into a centre to provide the basic training for potential Jedi.

The order has a nemesis in the Sith order, an order that is much more simpler, old and rich in tradition as the Jedi order. They are force driven beings just like Jedi but are able to call on both light and dark sides of the Force rendering them potentially more dangerous as compared to Jedi. They are simply characterized by single-minded lust for power and domain for sentient in life, as they did once rule the galaxy before being exiled by the Jedi. The Jedi are portrayed as dressed in simple robes and carrying specialized gear for their mission. They are usually wielded by lightsaber, the most notable instrument carried by them. Lightsabers may be in many different colors like blue, yellow, purple or silver depending upon the ranking of the Jedi.

Jedi knights are usually disciplined. Experienced Jedi may become full-fledged Jedi knights upon completion of the trials which are usually intensified tests including physical and other skills. Performing heroic act can earn a Padawan learner Jedi knight status. Jedi knight is the most common rank of Jedi. Besides there are other ranks as well. A child with force potential is often called as Jedi youngling, which is an unofficial title. An apprentice who undergoes intensive training under a Jedi knight is usually called as a Jedi Padawan. A Jedi knight may become a Jedi master after successfully training a apprentice to knight status. They can also be nominated by the members of the Jedi council. Exceptional Jedi masters fill in the position of a council members. A group of council members may also elect a new member in the council whenever the seat is vacant. Then comes the grand master who has the highest rankings in the Jedi masters. No matter what rank or position they will always be known as the warriors who fight for the justice.
