To play golf it is necessary to concentrate on the activity at hand and ignore any noise or distractions going on around you.

One of the problems in golf is the length of time between shots; it is hard to stay focused for these extended periods of time.

In golf you could quite easily play a four hour round, in which only a few minutes are spent actually swinging the club.

The remainder of your time is spent walking from one place to another on the course, and waiting for someone else to play.

Golf is the game that is most active for the players, in that you do not react to a ball being kicked, thrown or hit to you, but actually create the action yourself.

Fighting the past is another problem for your focus in a golf game. Remembering the way you poorly played a previous game can distract you for the shot you are taking now.

Focus on the game at hand, not the one you played on the same course 2 months ago. The chances of repeating mistakes are greatly increased if you cant seem to forget that lousy shot!

The memories can create anxiety and anger which are both very destructive in a golf game, as you need to concentrate on the shot you are making right now.

Another problem is worrying about the future, a hole that has proven difficult for others or even for you in the past.

Understanding what you are trying to control is the first step in controlling your mind.

Stop for a minute and try not to think about anything, what you end up with are fragmented, short thoughts, which really arent going anywhere.

Being able to control this stream of thoughts gives us a real advantage in our ability to play golf.
