I met someone yesterday who is the most optimistic person about the US economy that I have met in well over a year since all the bubbles started bursting. He owns a print shop and has a masters degree in economic studies. And what he said did make sense to some degree. He says that the crash of the dollar means that the US can export goods again and be competitive and that this will usher in a new era of revitalized manufacturing in America and ultimately cause a financial boom. I hope he is right. I am not so sure. But it was at least good to meet someone who has an optimistic viewpoint about the American economy and where it is headed. If one steps back and takes a deep breath and looks at the shocking increase in gas prices then they can apply this same brand of optimism. .
There is one great benefit of the soaring price of oil which should be a cause of celebration amongst the environmental organizations: it is making alternative energy much more attractive, so much so that the high price may just be thing that the facilitates a major wave of alternative fuel source projects that will, consequently, lead to greater scale economies and perhaps the mainstreaming of alternative energy. This would be a serious lemons to lemonade sort of scenario.
Overall, the high price of energy is doing some pretty bad things -- but if it can help shift the playing field to alternative energy, this silver lining could be an epic and historic shift.
The longer oil prices continue to rise, the greater the significance of potential consumer reaction. A 10% rise in gas prices reduces consumption by just roughly half a percent in the short term, but it can reduce demand much more substantially over a longer period of time

As people decide on the important things for the future, such as where to live and what is the best vehicle for them to own, they are starting to take into consideration the price of gas into the equation. Some are choosing smaller cars or are relocating nearer to their offices to diminish gas consumption.
The recent "crisis" has delayed or impeded many new subdivisons, high gasoline prices have lessened consumption and restrained purchasing of gas-guzzlers, and increasing construction costs are restricting new coal and gas plants.
Meanwhile, economic incentives are generating a frenzy of new clean energy construction.
But the most fascinating aspect is that all this is occuring while the real workable method to reducing of gas usage and helping the environment through cleaner emissions is RIGHT HERE AT WATER4GAS
