I managed to find somebody yesterday who is optimistic about the US economy! . He was quite a smart fellow who owns a print and copy shop and owns a masters degree in economics. No dummy. And what he said did make sense to some degree. He says that the crash of the dollar means that the US can export goods again and be competitive and that this will usher in a new era of revitalized manufacturing in America and ultimately cause a financial boom. I hope he is right. I am not so sure. But it was at least good to meet someone who has an optimistic viewpoint about the American economy and where it is headed. If one steps back and takes a deep breath and looks at the shocking increase in gas prices then they can apply this same brand of optimism. .
There is a particularly great advantage of the unprecedented price of oil that environmentalists should be celebrating: it is making alternative energy much more attractive, this is so much the case that the rising price may just be thing that the facilitates a tidal wave of renewable energy projects which could, in turn, lead to a greater share of the market and perhaps the movement of alternative fuel sources into the mainstream. This would be a serious lemons to lemonade sort of scenario.
In the current scene the high price of energy is having some pretty bad effects -- but if it can help shift the playing field to alternative energy, this silver lining could be an epic and historic shift.
The longer gasoline prices remain high, the greater the significance of potential consumer reaction. A rise of ten percent in gasoline prices lowers consumption by just 0.6% in the short term, but it lessens demand much more substantially over a the long haul

As consumers make major spending decisions, such as where to live and what type of car they want, they are starting to consider the price of gas into the equation. Some are opting for smaller cars or are relocating nearer to their offices to lower driving.
The recent concern has delayed or slowed many new subdivisons, high gas prices have lessened consumption and resulted in less purchasing of, and increasing construction costs are restricting new coal and gasoline refineries.
Meanwhile, a shift in government subsidies from the oil industry to alternative energy sources are generating a frenzy of new renewable energy construction.
But the most amazing aspect is that all this is occuring while the real remedy for to increase in MPG and helping the environment through cleaner emissions is RIGHT HERE AT WATER4GAS
