While you can find people anywhere, finding those who are suitable for this new phase in your life can take some thought and consideration. For casual dating, finding others that are seeking this is easy to find. The main points to keep in mind are to avoid situations where you are likely to encounter those who may wish to take advantage of your newly-single state, as well as those whose purpose in dating is to acquire a committed partner. A great American pastime, the backyard barbecue, is a great opportunity to meet and socialize with new people without having the additional stresses of going on a date with a person you do not know. This situation provides the benefit of the person already being known by your friends or family, thus dramatically increasing the element of safety.

When looking for prospective dates, a community event can be an appealing option. It does not matter what your personal interests or hobbies might be, you can safely say that you should be able to find a number of events going on in your locale that relate to them; in going with this method, you will be able to meet people that share your same interests and hobbies as you do. You can check your local newspaper to find current events, sign up for classes at a nearby college; and, if you are inclined toward sports, don't dismiss the possibility of meeting new people in such places as High School football or basketball games. If you elect to meet people in this fashion, your chances of meeting someone whom you have something in common with are greatly increased.

If you are going to try online dating as a method of meeting people online, you should consider taking precautions for your own safety. You should never give out your address or phone number; it is also unwise to call a person you have not met on a phone which can be traced. If you get to the point where you plan to meet an online person, it is best to do so in the daytime, in a public place.

When you implement any or all of these methods, you are certain to find people that you would like to get to know and who will enrich your new social experiences greatly.
