3D Glasses

3D Glasses were at the forefront of the virtual reality revolution process. Although movies have featured 3D glasses since the early 1900’s, the cardboard red and blue glasses that are a movie’s novelty - and the Viewmaster that has provided decades of fairy-tale and educational entertainment - were often a child’s first foray into the virtual world.

Today, 3-D computer graphics infiltrate the children’s minds and comfortable revolutionized 3D glasses rest on the noses of children watching movies at cinemas such as IMAX that specialize in 3D movies. Tomorrow, children might be exploring products in 3-D through virtual reality marketing.

3-D glasses continue to be a profitable marketing gimmick for movies, and yes, the paper ones are still around. Disney had their most successful film opening on a Superbowl weekend in 2008 thanks to the 3D showing of Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert. Fans gave raving reviews of their virtual experience’ meaning implementation of such 3D glass was a success.

Because of their novelty, 3D glasses have always attracted more movie goers, and many patrons willingly pay higher ticket prices to see the 3D version. In 2007, CNN reported that a J.P. Morgan analyst projects that 3D movies will attract 10% more viewers compared to normal movies.

Real D and Dolby are the forerunners in the race to capitalize on the 3D revolution. Real D uses a technique that transforms the electromagnetic properties of light called circular polarization. Dolby is following in their footsteps and is their primary competitor. Dolby has a special license for their color-filtering technique and they use it perfectly. Other players in the market are beginning to follow the method as well. The popularity of 3D movies and the refined stereoscopic images also have business marketers thinking about including 3D imaginations in their marketing efforts.

3D marketing holds the potential for a revolution in marketing, much like the change from radio to television. At first, the customers could only hear the advertisement on television; they can see the item being advertised. On the web and on TV, potential customers can watch the touted product in motion and in 3D graphics through this technology. With enough scientific exploration into illusions, the technology is sure to arise that allows marketers to give their audience the experience of using their product.

Today, the virtual experience is being used in the travel industry as well. Users can have a 3D experience of visiting virtually anywhere in the world with their special 3D glasses and a projector adapted for 3D movies. Innovative stores today are introducing mirrors with technology that lets the users view the outfit on the body without even trying it on. Tomorrow, the user may be able to touch the clothes, as well as try them on in the comforts with computerized virtual technology.

More we head towards a digital world, more useful this 3d glass will be. Sky is the limit as far as the future of 3D glass is concern.
